Brigadeiro:
Brigadeiro are scrumptious dulce de leche caramel bonbons. This beloved confection of Brazil is made from sweetened condensed milk, butter, and cocoa powder which is heated in a saucepan until it thickens and becomes a sticky caramel. Once it cools, it is rolled into a ball and dipped in multicolored or chocolate sprinkles.
The iconic bonbon was named after Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, a 1946 presidential candidate. It was created to win voter support. (He lost). Since then, brigadeiro has become a staple in Brazilian homes and served at children’s parties.
Any presidential candidate that makes a candy tasty as brigadeiro has my vote!
